The "Swag" of Azealia Banks

Nowadays I’ve become a very picky guy when it comes to music and the music I like from new artists. I can count about ten acts that I am really excited about at the moment, and to me – that’s not a lot!

However, I am writing this post to tell you about one of those acts who I am truly loving at the moment! This lady has mixed music genres, made it her own in such a unique and current way, is full of swagger, and raps like a filthy dirty-minded machine gun! Yes, I am talking about Azealia Banks!

After setting the world on fire with her expletive-laden track 212, she has drip-fed some really brilliant tracks to the masses with the blogosphere picking up on it big time! Adored by the likes of Radio 1 and NME, she shows no signs of dying out!

This year she is on making sure that we know about her and mad creative aggressive self by releasing an EP (1991), a mixtape (Fantasea) and her debut album (Broke With Expensive Taste) as well as going on tour too!

The 1991 EP that she just released some weeks ago is four tracks long but really gives a taste as to what she’s about. It’s very current and forward in its style. I have had it on repeat since! This EP is a great introduction to Azealia as an artist and shows her thinking behind the music and who she works with, to get that across!

My favourite track is the title track 1991, which features her rapping over a wicked catwalk-esque house rave beat with a massively catchy chorus! I’ve been raving to it in my head since it came out! I’m just glad the trend that she’s following is her own and not anyone else’s, unlike some generic artists (no names – Rhianna! LOL!!!).

I am also loving one of the tracks off of the Fantasea mixtape called Jumanji, produced by British producer of the moment, Hudson Mohawke. It features a tribal, spaced out beat and some steel pans, with Azealia’s fast trademark aggressive flow which makes this an interesting mix that is a great insight into what the mixtape may offer! So good!
